Andy Spinoza is a Manchester-based journalist. He has reported on the city’s music scene for the NME and the Face. He founded alternative magazine City Life in 1983 and spent ten years as a gossip columnist for the Manchester Evening News. Through his own PR company, he promoted the dynamic postindustrial Manchester throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
Manchester in the 1980s was home to bands like Joy Division and the Smiths and a world-famous rave scene. The music rose from the conditions of life in postindustrial Manchester — and, ironically, it paved the way for a new wave of capital investment.
