The Exercise of Power

I agreed wholeheartedly with Bhaskar Sunkara’s editorial last issue (and look forward to reading his book) but I wonder why it was necessary.

I’m a democratic socialist and a worker, and that’s why I support the candidate that best represents working-class interests. I want Medicare for All, I want it to be easier to unionize, and I want affordable housing. It’d be great if we had a socialist party. Instead we just have Bernie, so I’ll canvas for him. It’s that simple.

Why do we need to find historical and theoretical justifications for an act that is actually very obvious — voting for a flawed candidate in a bad party’s primary, because he’s the best option we have.
